1. Summary
- Your quizzes, answers, media attachments and settings are stored on your device.
- Shoquiz has no accounts, no ads, and no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
- AI features use Apple's on-device Foundation Models, so the text you submit stays on your device. It is sent to Apple's Private Cloud Compute only if you choose that option.
- Telemetry is optional. You can turn it on or off at any time in Settings.
- If telemetry is off, the app does not send usage or engagement data.
- Shoquiz never sells your data.
2. Data that stays on your device
The following is created and stored locally (in the app's Documents directory and app preferences) and is not uploaded by Shoquiz:
- Quiz files (.shoquizn), including questions, answers, explanations, tags, folders, and any audio or video attached to questions
- Quiz results and progress
- Your display name and app preferences (library mode, backgrounds, app icon, and similar settings)
- Imported and exported files (for example PDF, HTML, Kahoot, Blooket, or Anki exports)
If you back up your device with iCloud or iTunes, these files may be included in that backup according to your Apple settings. That is handled by Apple, not by Shoquiz.
3. Optional telemetry
Shoquiz includes a telemetry system that helps the developer understand which features are used and test improvements through A/B experiments.
3.1 Your control
- You can enable or disable telemetry at any time in Settings.
- Telemetry is on by default and presented as a choice during onboarding.
- Turning telemetry off stops all future telemetry from being sent.
3.2 What is collected when telemetry is on
- A random anonymous installation ID. This is generated by the app, is not linked to your Apple ID, name, or email, and is not your advertising identifier. It lets reports count unique installs without identifying you.
- A/B experiment information. Which experiment groups (for example layout experiments) your install was placed in, so results can be compared between groups.
- Engagement events. Counts and timestamps of high-level actions, such as app opens and session length, which screens or features were used (library, quiz, Maker, converter, teacher tools, settings), and whether a quiz was started or finished.
- Basic technical information. App version and build, iOS or macOS version, device model category (iPhone, iPad, Mac), language and region setting, and whether Shoquiz+ is active.
3.3 What is never collected
- The contents of your quizzes, questions, answers, explanations, or attached media
- Quiz titles, file names, folder names, or tags
- Your display name or the names of people you send quizzes to or receive quizzes from
- Classroom mode participants or their responses
- Your contacts, photos, files, location, or clipboard contents
- Your Apple ID, email address, phone number, or advertising identifier
- Any data used to track you across other apps or websites
3.4 How telemetry is used
Telemetry is used only to:
- Measure which features are used so the developer can decide what to improve
- Compare A/B experiment groups
- Produce engagement reports that the developer can view remotely
- Find and fix problems
Telemetry is not used for advertising, profiling, or sale to anyone.
3.5 Where it goes and how long it is kept
Telemetry is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to a server operated by Cloudflare. Events are kept for up to 7 days and may be kept longer only in aggregated form that cannot be tied back to an install. The developer's remote engagement reports show aggregate statistics.
3.6 Deleting your telemetry data
Turning telemetry off stops new data from being sent. Requesting deletion of data linked to your installation ID is neither possible nor necessary, as it will be removed in 7 days regardless. Reinstalling the app gives you a new ID.
4. Experiments and local flags
Some experiments are decided on your device using values stored in the app's preferences. Where a remote experiment setting is used, the app only receives the experiment configuration. It does not need to send personal information to receive it. If telemetry is off, the app falls back to its default behavior.
5. Sending quizzes to other people and Classroom mode
Shoquiz can send quizzes wirelessly between devices and can host a Classroom session.
- Sending is available only in Teacher mode, and the receiver must accept before anything is received.
- Your chosen display name is shown to nearby devices so the right person can be selected and so receivers can see who is sending.
- Quizzes and responses in these features go directly between the participating devices and are not sent to the developer.
- If you show a Classroom session on a screen using AirPlay, the content is shown to whatever display you choose.
Display names are visible to nearby participants during these features, so choose a name you are comfortable sharing.
6. Permissions
Shoquiz requests only the permissions needed for features you use, such as local network access for wireless sending and Classroom mode, and access to files you choose to import or export. You can change these at any time in system Settings.
7. Third parties
Shoquiz does not include third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. Apple processes information under its own privacy policy for features such as the App Store, TestFlight, iCloud backup, and AirPlay.
AI features
The AI quiz generator and question helper in the Maker use Apple's Foundation Models framework. They run only when you use them, on text you choose to submit.
- On-device (default). The text is processed by Apple's on-device model. It stays on your device and is not sent to the developer or to any server.
- Private Cloud Compute (only if you choose it). If you choose to use Private Cloud Compute, the text you submit is sent to Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers to generate a response, under Apple's privacy terms. It is not sent to the developer, and Shoquiz does not use any other third-party AI service.
The text and the generated responses are not part of telemetry.
8. Children
Shoquiz is a general-purpose study and classroom tool. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Telemetry, when enabled, uses only an anonymous installation ID and the usage data described above. Teachers using Shoquiz with students are responsible for following the rules that apply at their school or in their region.
9. Contact
Questions, requests, or deletion requests: katspringb@icloud.com
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted with a new effective date. If a change adds new categories of telemetry, the app will ask you again before sending that data.
